CHAPTER HISTORY

CHAPTER BEGINNING

In April of 1927, Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter was organized in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Chapter was officially chartered at the Centre Avenue YMCA by Norma Boyd, one of the founders of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. There were eight young college graduates who are recognized as charter members: four college graduates from the University of Pittsburgh, two from Carnegie Tech (aka Carnegie Mellon University), one from Emerson College in Boston (the nation’s only four-year college devoted exclusively to communication and performing arts at that time), and one from Howard University in Washington, DC.
